Leading Action: Onboarding New Employees is a Group Effort

by Leading Edge

Leading Action

The entire organization is impacted when new employees arrive, so many people need to be involved in onboarding efforts. It is not just the responsibility of HR or the manager/supervisor, but the entire organization.

There’s a difference between onboarding and orientation. Orientation might occur on the first day or during the first week , to introduce new hires to policies and procedures. Onboarding is a process that socializes new employees to the organization and ensures they have the necessary skills and knowledge to become effective members of the organization. Engaging the entire organization in this process is crucial to building a foundation of trust and support that will grow alongside the employee themselves.

Benefits of Effective Onboarding:

  1. Engages employees early on.
  2. Builds trust and alignment
  3. Encourages open communication from the start.
  4. Builds your employment brand as a great place to work.
  5. Fosters connection and relationships between employees.
  6. Enables new employees to be productive faster.
  7. Decreases turnover and increases employee satisfaction.
