Leading Edge announces first cohort of Leading Executives

by Leading Edge

20 leaders of Jewish nonprofits will learn and connect to face the challenges of 2023 and beyond.

Leading Edge has announced 20 senior-most executives leading Jewish nonprofits who will inaugurate the program Leading Executives. From September 2022 through February 2023, these leaders will receive leadership training, coaching, and opportunities for connection and mutual support. When the program ends, they will join the growing alumni network of Jewish nonprofit leaders who have completed Leading Edge Executive Programs.

A successor to the CEO Onboarding Program, one of Leading Edge’s original flagship offerings, Leading Executives expands the core elements of that program, while streamlining the experience to offer it to more leaders, more frequently.

The following leaders will participate in the first cohort of Leading Executives:

    • Jeremy Anderson, Judaism Your Way
    • Audra Berg, Jewish Federation of Broward County
    • Jeff Bicher, Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA
    • Alexandra Corwin, Ammud: Jews of Color Torah Academy
    • Beth Gendler, Jewish Community Action
    • Brady Gill, Jewish Youth for Community Justice
    • Rabbi Megan GoldMarche, Tribe 12
    • Nora Gorenstein, Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts
    • Shaun Hoffman, JDC Entwine
    • Nehemia Ichilov, Jewish Federation of San Antonio
    • Rabbi Shirley Idelson, Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program at Brandeis University
    • Shuli Karkowsky, Moving Traditions
    • Erik Ludwig, Jewish Federation of Orange County
    • Michelle W. Malkin, Temple Ner Tamid
    • Daniella HarPaz Mechnikov, Yad Ezra
    • Serena Oberstein, Jewish World Watch
    • Jennifer Phillips, Keshet
    • Gail Schulman, Jewish Family & Children’s Service (Boston)
    • Marc Swatez, Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis
    • Allison Zeff, Detroit Jews for Justice

Leading Edge’s research into the experience of Jewish nonprofit executives shows that CEOs of Jewish organizations are overwhelmingly proud to lead their organizations, interested and challenged by their work, and positive in their assessments of their relationships with their boards and senior teams—but often feel less confident in areas like creating and maintaining a great workplace culture, inspiring the board, and managing their organizations through significant change. Leading Edge’s data also reveals that leaders find connecting with other leaders to be one of the most helpful factors contributing to their success. As one alum of Leading Edge executive programming said recently, “Because of Leading Edge, when I’m lonely as a CEO there’s always someone I can call.”

The second cohort of Leading Executives will run from January through June of 2023, meeting in person April 16–19 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Information about applications for that cohort will be available in November 2022. (UPDATE: Subsequent to this announcement, Rabbi Megan Goldmarche deferred participation in this program and is part of the second, not the first cohort.)
